Synopsis:
Christopher is a brilliant, socially anxious fifteen-year-old with a
unique and logical mind. When he discovers his
neighbor's dog, Wellington, murdered with a pitchfork in his neighbor's yard,
Christopher sets out on a journey to investigate the crime. His investigation
takes him far outside his comfort zone, and Christopher must brave rude
neighbors, frightening strangers, and the city of London itself.
Christopher's investigation uncovers secrets about his neighbors, his father,
and his long-dead mother -- secrets that will change the course of his family.
Our production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time takes place in Siobhan's classroom,
as the community comes together to mount a production of Christopher's play.
Christopher, Siobhan, Ed, and Judy are played (in the play within the play)
by themselves. The rest of the characters, the ensemble, are played by
members of Christopher's community: teachers, neighbors, police officers
-- trusted adults that have come together to help Christopher tell his story.

written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns)
and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer,
transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the
roles they most identify with.
Please note: In the event that a minor is cast in the role of Christopher,
it is Concord Players policy that all adult (18+) cast and crew members
working on the production (with the exception of house staff and orchestra)
will be subject to a Massachusetts CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information)
search. There will be no cost to any individual cast or crew member for
this search. See here

Christopher(male presenting, 15)
The main character of the story, and
the author of The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night-Time.
Christopher is a boy of 15 who lives with his father in the small city of
Swindon. He thrives on routine, and doesn't go out much or interact with
people outside of his school. Christopher is curious, observant, witty,
and exceptionally smart, but he's also shy, anxious, and has difficulty
with people and social situations. He gets easily overwhelmed. Although
the script doesn't specify it directly, Christopher has Autism Spectrum
Disorder, and throughout the play we see how his unique mind works to his
advantage and disadvantage as he goes on his adventure.
Note:
People who identify with the autistic or neurodivergent community
are strongly encouraged to audition for the role of Christopher. Crafting
the character of Christopher is intense and delicate work, and it's not
something the director can do without heavy input from the actor.
Christopher needs to be a complete, fully lived-in character, and drawing
from lived experience or the experience of those close to you is one way
we can avoid painting Christopher as a caricature of someone with ASD.
Note also: The actor who will portray Christopher need not be 15 years
old, but must be able to present as a 15-year-old. Actors meeting this
expectation, whether or not they are minors (i.e., under or over the age
of 18), are welcome to audition for this role.
Siobhan(female presenting, 30s-50s)
Christopher's classroom teacher, and
the narrator of the play. Siobhan is level-headed and professional, but
also caring and gentle. She is a stable, calm, nurturing presence in
Christopher's life, and one of the few people he trusts completely.
Siobhan recognizes the ways Christopher is exceptional, and seeks to
foster his growth in safe ways.
Ed(male presenting, 30s-50s)
Christopher's father, raising him by
himself after Judy leaves. Ed bears the full weight of not only single
parenthood, but also raising a child with developmental difficulties. He
is sometimes stern and always protective, wanting to keep Christopher
safe, out of trouble, and in environments where he knows Christopher can
both thrive and be supervised (or controlled). He has a bit of a temper.
Ed is not a perfect parent, but he loves Christopher very, very much, and
striving to be a better father to Christopher is central to his
character.
Judy(female presenting, 30s-50s)
Christopher's mother, who disappears
before the events of the play. In Act 1, Judy represents Christopher's
memory of her; an ethereal, ideal mother. As the play goes on, more of
Judy's character is revealed; she is a free spirit, and had more trouble
than Ed coping with the difficulties of Christopher's upbringing. Like
Ed, Judy is far from perfect but does love Christopher.
The Ensemble plays everyone else in the show,
as well as a Greek Chorus of voices.
Voice One(female presenting, 30s-50s)
Mrs. Shears: Christopher's neighbor and Wellington's owner. Not a fan
of Christopher or Ed.
Mrs. Gascoyne: The principal of Christopher's school.
Woman on Train: A kind but apathetic stranger.
Shopkeeper: A rude London shopkeeper.

Man Behind Counter: Ticket-booth operator at the Swindon train

with Wellington's murder and doesn't want to get involved.
Drunk Two: A drunk man who accosts Christopher on the train.
Man With Socks: A bystander who sees Christopher jump onto the train
tracks. He wants to be helpful but was not prepared for this today.
London Policeman: A policeman in London who tries to sort out the
mess with Christopher and Judy. He wants to help but the situation makes
his head spin a bit.
Voice Four(male presenting, 40s or older)
Reverend Peters: A pastor who works at Christopher's school. Very
kind, very patient, but doesn't quite know how to reconcile religion with
Christopher's mind.
Uncle Terry: Christopher's uncle. He smokes cigarettes and strokes
Christopher's hair. He doesn't much like Uncle Terry.
Station Policeman: A policeman who tries to wrangle Christopher as he
navigates the train. He's good at his job but Christopher wears out his
patience fast.

job. Christopher confuses her.
Punk Girl: A cockney girl who sees Christopher on the train tracks.
Much more decisive than Man With Socks in helping him up.
Voice Six(female presenting, 60s or older)
Mrs. Alexander: Christopher's kind old neighbor. She's a bit of a
gossip and is the only adult willing to clue Christopher into what is
actually going on. She has love and patience for Christopher and he
develops trust for her.
Posh Woman: A woman on the train who is very upset that Christopher
is touching her bag.
